“I am a client of [Shorefront] Jewish Community Council since 2004. I cannot imagine how would have been my life if not for your help.
My case worker visits me at home because I have mobility problems and other health problems. Recently my Medicaid was mistakenly closed. The pharmacy stopped to supply all necessary drugs. My cases worker has done, in my opinion, impossible. Very quickly I have returned my Medicaid. Such expertise is not often to meet.
It has been done great work to freeze the rent, apply for Section 8 and public housing. Problems with financial assistance, Food Stamps, transportation, lost green card, landlord issues, advocacy—is not a complete list of work, which performs my case worker.
Where else can be found such help? This is a great support and help in the lives of elderly, isolated, sick and poor people. God bless you.”

“Thank you for all of the assistance I have gotten from the Shorefront Jewish Community Council Food Pantry program. It has made an enormous difference in my quality of life, and my diet. There have been times when grocery prices went way up, and my food stamp cost of living raise didn’t keep up. If not for the Council’s Food Pantry program, my life would have been difficult indeed.
The vouchers to purchase kosher items at Kosher Palace have also meant a great deal to me, and allow me to maintain a little bit of my cultural identity.
The help that I have received has moved me to volunteer, in order to give back to the community that has aided me. Volunteering has allowed me to see just how needed a program like this is, and how many others depend on the good work that the program does.”

“The first time I came to Shorefront JCC I was offered benefit screening to see whether I was using everything I was entitled to. Sure enough, there were some benefits I wasn’t aware of. I learned people on SSI, SSDI or PA are entitled to a reduction of basic charges on Con Ed—we got that right away. Then I was entitled to the LifeLine program from Verizon—a fixed changed of $16/month for as many local calls as I want. So I enrolled in that.
I also got a reduced rate from the gas company. And it was nice to find that I was entitled to $50 yearly from the HEAP program (for heat). I never knew about that. Last year I received an air-conditioner under the senior citizens program. A lot of clients are entitled to monthly food packages, and benefit screening determines who is entitled. It’s a very useful program for me and other clients.”
